#184, We don’t value what we have..!

By Faces of Rajkot, March 4, 2016

I hate carrying water bottles in my hand. I just don’t like it. One of my friends goes to an English medium school of Rajkot and tells me the stories about the school. I too share my school stories with him. But, I would like to share one with you today.

Whenever you see facilities of any other developed or developing countries, we crib about ours. But, when we are given some basic facilities comparing to other countries, we really do not care about it. I am so happy with my school. The education, teachers, activities we do all are good. We used to carry our bottle of water with us in case if we feel thirsty. A few years back, a gentleman visited our school and he met our school head and went passing smiling at us. I liked his attitude, smile and style, one day I will be like him. Later on I came to know he was from an organization called Rotary Club of Rajkot Midtown.

In a few months time, our school was furnished by a water filter plant and the water was really amazing. I had never tasted such sweet water in my life. It was a treat for us. Moreover, we need not to carry water bottles with us. Everything was going smooth and happy. I liked the blue colour of the water filter a lot. It was like the blue sky pouring pure water on us.

Within a year or so, the water filter stopped and so were our smiles. I came to know that it requires maintenance and probably it was costly. I really felt bad and cried a lot because when we had not the filter plant, we were demanding and my parents even at some point started cursing government about it. But, when some well hearted organization tried to furnish us with our necessity, we really did not care. Not even silly maintenance. Resulting, we are again carrying our water bottles. I feel the bottle is taking away my freedom. I feel I am tied up with it like a chain with a nail for an animal.

Modern technology has become a total phenomenon for civilization, the defining force of a new social order in which efficiency is no longer an option but a necessity imposed on all.
