#209, Bhagirathsinh Zala and Swachh Rajkot

By Faces of Rajkot, May 6, 2016

With Great Power comes Great Responsibility, are the words given by Spiderman Voltaire. Being at one of the reputed employee in Rajkot Municipal Corporation, I could take lot of freedom in following rules. But, I always insist to follow rules like a common man of Rajkot. Rules are similar and everyone in Rajkot is abiding to them.

I am Bhagirathsingh Zala, I started my career as a labour at “Dudh Sagar Dairy” after I completed my 12th in 2005 because I wanted fees for my further studies. Some people don’t like change, but you need to embrace change if the alternative is disaster. At that age I used to have a belief that I would study with my own earned money and would not expect anything from anyone. My father has done labour work throughout his lifetime and now serving as a driver for Municipal commissioner since 30 years.

If I talk about my government career, I had worked closely with Gujarat State Disaster Management-RMC to prepare Disaster Response Plan for Bhavnagar, Morbi, Maliya and Rajkot and my skills were recognized. I was selected to work directly under the supervision and instruction of Dr. Dinesh Bhrahmbhatt(I.A.S.), ex- municipal commissioner of Rajkot, He appreciated me with Award Certificate for my dedication and honesty towards duty and he also encouraged me to complete Master degree in IT. Mr. Ajay Bhadoo(I.A.S.), successor commissioner and current Secretary to CM, Chief Minister’s office who appointed me on permanent post in PA to Commissioner’s office and I was the only one who was awarded ‘Appreciation Certificate’ for my duties during the tenure. Mr. Vijay Nehra (I.A.S.), current commissioner, also appreciated my work and awarded me key responsibilities in “Swachh Bharat Mission“.

I am not here today to tell you about my former poor background or my success stories. I am here to tell you about my next project plans, “Swachh Rajkot, Swachh Bharat”. I am given responsibilities to for this project to promote Rajkot as the cleanest city of the country.

We are making efforts to ban plastic, stop open defecation, to aware and change people’s behaviour towards cleanliness, recycle more and more, heritage and monuments cleaning, clean parks and public places, rain water harvesting and lot more. Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything. I or my team alone cannot do this. You all have to come along as a team.

Are you with me? Want to become the best from the better city?
