#216, Ratan, A Gem
એક ચા ની દુકાન પાસે કાર ઉભી રાખી ને ચા ની ચુસ્કી લેતો હતો ત્યાં એક નાનકડી છોકરી ઠેકડા મારતી મારતી આવી.
મારી સામે જોઈ રહી, મારા હાથ માં રાખેલ કેમેરા ને જોઈ ને મો પાસે હાથ મૂકી હસતી હતી.
મેં દુકાન પર થી વેફરનું એક પેકેટ લઇ ને એની તરફ લંબાવ્યું.
“એક મિનીટ” એટલું બોલી ને એ પેકેટ લીધા વિના ચાલી ચાલી ગઈ. થોડી વાર પછી પાછી આવી અને હસતા હસતા પેકેટ લઇ, ખોલીને ખાવા લાગી.
મને તો અચરજ થયું કે આ શું કરવા ગઈ હશે? મેં એને પૂછ્યું.
“હાથ ધોવા. મારા શિક્ષકે શીખવ્યું છે કે કંઈપણ ખાતા પહેલા હાથ ધોવા જોઈએ”
“નામ શું તારું?”
“ફોટો પાડશો તો કહું?”
ક્લિક…
“રતન” એટલું બોલી ને ખડખડાટ હસતી આંખો નચાવતી દોડી ગઈ.
તારા જેવું મોંઘું અનમોલ રતન તો રાજકોટ ને જ પોશાય.

I was having tea at a roadside tea stall after photography session at Ravivaari (Sunday Flea market) when a small girl came to me.
She noticed a camera in my hands and she blushed. I loved her smile so I bought her a packet of potato chips. She old me to wait and to my surprise, without taking the packet of chips, she ran away.
In some time she came back so I asked her where she went.
She said, my teacher told me to wash hands before eating anything.
I asked her name and she told me that she will tell me her name only if I click her photo. I clicked and she said her name is ‘Ratan’*.
I was thinking… Only Rajkot can have such Ratan’.
*Raten in English means a Gem.
