After using bikes, scooters and cars, we feel shame in riding a bicycle for the comfort and may be because of our own ego. I know many people who are interested in cycling but they are reluctant because of many such reasons.
Since past 5 years, I, Divyesh Aghera , was riding bicycle as a mode of transportation. One day my friend and a renowned journalist of ‘Chitralekha’, Jwalant Chhaya suggested me to promote cycling which has plenty of benefits from fitness to saving the world from global warming. That clicked my mind and I started searching for cycling enthusiasts from Rajkot. Big task was how to attract people to join us? So, we tried to do as much publicity and added some glamour and fun elements in publicity.
So, my friends from Rotary Club of Rajkot Midtown and Rotary Midtown Library, we started “Rajkot Cycle Club” on World Cycle Day, 19th April 2015.
Members go for cycling in a group depending on their convenience, either in morning or in the evening. The plans are decided on WhatsApp group. We keep each other’s records and progress on mobile app which motivates all of us to work hard to achieve bigger targets. We also arrange dinner meetings for fellowship.
Very soon, mostly in 2nd week of January 2017, we are planning a cycle brevet which is a timed brevet of 75 kms and it will be a joint event with Rajkot Municipal Corporation.
I urge everyone to start cycling. You can chose your reason… fun, fashion, health, fitness, exercise, to reduce pollution, to reduce your carbon imprint on the earth or to reduce global warming… If you have any other reasons for cycling, I would be happy to learn from you.
